Why is “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” rated R? The MPAA rating has been assigned for “sequences of strong violence, and grisly images.” The Kids-In-Mind.com evaluation includes several implications of women being owned for procreation, a man inappropriately touching a child’s hair and carrying her away, female nudity depicted in a painting, several scenes of people with gaping and bloody wounds, a child witnessing her mother’s torture and murder, a woman’s arm is crushed and later severed, dogs licking blood from a dead body, people being tortured and torn apart (off-screen), many scenes of vehicles roaring through desert settings crashing and exploding and people being shot and blown up with flames and some bloody wounds shown, many scenes of yelling, and some strong language. When a young girl (Alyla Browne) is taken by Dr. Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) after he murders her mother, she is determined to find a way to get revenge when she grows up (Anya Taylor-Joy) for all that she has lost, in this prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. – A picture of a painting in a book depicts nude women with bare breasts, abdomens and buttocks visible and a man copies the painting in a mural on the wall.
►A man touches a young girl’s hair while she sleeps and she runs away, he chases her and we see her clinging to the underside of a large pipe. A man plays with a young girl’s hair and she pulls away from him. A man and a young woman touch their foreheads together, tenderly.
►A man trades with another man for a young girl and says that she can be one of their wives; we see a room where several women of varying ages are shown wearing clothing that reveals cleavage, bare shoulders, bare abdomens and legs to the hips.
►A woman moans in labor and we see conjoined twins delivered and the umbilical cord cut. A man is seen with a tree seeming to grow from his groin (we see his bare chest, abdomen and legs to the hips).
►Many men and young men are shown shirtless and covered with something white (paint with a mixture of sand and something else) and we see their bare chests, abdomens and backs. A man wears a transparent covering over his chest and abdomen and tubes are connected to a mask over his face. A young girl wears a dress that when backlit shows the outline of her legs to the upper thighs. A young woman’s bare shoulder is seen when a man stitches a wound.

– A man is shown with a gaping bloody neck wound and blood gushes from the wound and his mouth; someone in a crowd says to hold him upside down so that he can draw a picture of a place where he was and we later see the man dead with dogs licking puddles of blood around and on him. A man is held in a metal trap and another man releases a trigger that shoots the man in the head and pulls rings out of his own nipples, leaving them bloody. A man hands another man something that he identifies as human blood sausage and the man eats it (it could be a finger). A man opens a piece of paper and we see a severed finger with a ring and blood on it. A dog carries a severed foot in its mouth (we see some blood at the ankle).
►Many people are shot in the cab of a truck as it enters a compound and a young woman in a car speeds in reverse through a gate before it is closed crushing another car under it; flames are shot at the woman behind the gate and toward a man with a gun inside the compound as they shoot several people inside, a man is shot in the head as people on motorcycles and in heavy machinery attack the first truck. A man drives a large vehicle through a gate after slamming into it a couple of times and driving over cars in the way, he chases a man and a woman in another car, the man in the car shoots at the man in the large vehicle and when it speeds next to them, the woman’s arm is pinned between the vehicles crushing her arm and she screams (we later see her bloody arm); the man is shot and the car flips over.
►A man is taken out of a flipped vehicle and tied to the back of a motorcycle as it rides away pulling the man behind it; the man runs until he falls and is then dragged and dogs are set loose on him (we see his body from a distance as he is dragged and dogs are picking at him); a woman with a wounded arm is tied to the back of a truck and forced to watch the man suffer and we later see the woman is no longer there but her severed arm to the elbow (we see blood, tissue and strands) is still hanging from the truck.
►Many vehicles try to drive up a steep hill and several are unable to make it up; a large crane and other equipment tip over into a deep hole, where people below scurry for cover. A young woman shooting people from a distance is shot with a shoulder rocket and she is thrown and buried in sand (she digs herself out and seems uninjured). A young woman driving a vehicle chases people on motorcycles and knocks them over before throwing one man into a sand pit and we see him swallowed by the sand.
►A woman puts on a mask made from a skull and uses a slingshot-type weapon to kill a man standing guard outside a tent, she kills another man inside the tent (we do not see blood) and a woman inside pleads for her not to kill her; the woman and a child ride away on a motorcycle as they are tracked by dogs and shot at and flames burn on the woman’s coat and head covering (she stops and takes them off and we see a bloody wound on her back). A woman waits for people chasing her in a narrow pass through rocks and shoots them as they come through making a pile of bodies and motorcycles; other people ride around to the other side, shoot at her and attack her and we hear punches landing and later see her tied to a tree with a fire burning under her with a man holding a knife to her throat as a child runs toward her; the child is held by a man and we understand that the woman was killed. People on motorcycles chase people in trucks and we see a couple of people shot and they fall out of the trucks onto the ground; others are told to fight each other with weapons to take a poison on a motorcycle that is chained to a man lying on the ground; we see them hit each other, one man is shot and the remaining people mount the motorcycles and rev the engines presumably riding away from each other to tear the chained man apart (we do not see the man pulled apart).
►An unconscious man revives in a tent and finds his water bladder empty; a young woman confronts him outside, shackles him, punches him in the face and kicks him in the abdomen, she threatens him with a gun, and beats him repeatedly in the face with the gun butt (we see blood on his face) until he falls back having a seizure and then goes still; it is later implied that she either shot him in the head, dragged him behind her vehicle or tied him to a tree to kill him. A young woman is stabbed in the shoulder and we see blood and the blade is pulled out by a man and the wound is stitched later (we see the heavy stitches and some blood).
►A man and a young woman in a truck shoot at people chasing them, someone grabs the young woman through the window and she stabs him repeatedly until he lets her go; the young woman uses a claw device on the truck to grab a parasailer out of the air and she engages a weapon that spins several spiked balls on cables around hitting the remaining people on motorcycles, she opens a hatch and we see a person dead with a bloody hole in his head inside; she holds a gun to the man driving the truck and he throws her off the truck leaving her in the desert alone.
►Motorcycles and trucks chase a transport truck carrying barrels filled with fuel; several men disguise themselves as opposing faction members by painting themselves with something white and standing on top of the transport truck; a couple of the men are shot and they fall off the truck, a large gate is opened and after the truck passes through two cannons shoot flames at anything else that tries to go through, people on the truck shoot at others in the compound and we see people falling dead (no blood is evident).
►A transport truck is chased by other vehicles that throw explosives at it and people parasail over it dropping explosives, several people are shot, the truck drives over a motorcycle and the rider clings underneath it, more explosives are dropped and we see people in flames and falling off the truck as it swerves to knock other vehicles off the road.
►Many explosives are dropped from the tops of rock formations and from people sliding across cables onto people on the ground below; people scramble to grab a young girl and drag her into a hole until a man pulls her out and carries her away, other people swing from ropes in the air and people on motorcycles speed away. A desert expanse is seen with a very small patch of green where two young girls gather fruit; one child leaves the other to stop several men from being able to tell anyone what they found and she cuts the fuel lines on their motorcycles while the men hack an animal that they have killed (we do not see the animal); one person wearing a mask made of bones grabs the child, she runs away and is pulled off a wall that she tries to scale by a man using a whip; we see her and lying across a motorcycle with her hands bound behind her later and she bites through the fuel line with her teeth. Bodies are shown hanging from a bridge stanchion.
►A young man holding two spears slides across cables between rock formations, drops to the ground and explodes amid many other people; we see smoke and flames and others on the ground yell and scramble. A man is shown with what looks like a nail in his head with blood around it and covered with something white. A man touches a young girl’s hair while she sleeps and she runs away, he chases her and we see her clinging to the underside of a large pipe. A young woman wakes up to find a man leaning over her and she swings a knife toward him; he catches her arm and he is not harmed and she goes back to sleep.
►Two women on horseback chase several men on motorcycles and one woman shoots a few of them, throwing them off their cycles and one is slashed by a woman with a sword (blood spurts); one person’s body is buried to the waist in sand with his legs sticking out. Two men on motorcycles stop when one runs out of gas, they fight briefly over a spare tank of gas and a young girl bound by the hands and feet cuts herself free and runs away; one man chases her and trips over a boulder, the other picks her up and rides away on a motorcycle. A young girl is kept in a large cage and she wears a half-mask on her face. A motorcycle drives over a skull with a small lizard crawling through it and crushes it. A young woman builds herself a prosthetic arm with weapons and tools. People root through bodies and crashed vehicles for spoils.
►Many people on motorcycles ride through the desert kicking up sand and people on the ground run and hide; the motorcycles stop and announce themselves to people inside saying that they will “lay siege on you.” Sand storms blow in several scenes and people enter them in a few scenes.
►A young woman wakes up in a cave with maggots squirming on her wounded arm and we see a woman that seems to be harvesting maggots from severed limbs hanging from the ceiling to treat other people’s wounds. A woman moans in labor and we see conjoined twins delivered and the umbilical cord cut (some goo on the flesh is visible). A large crow pecks at the eye of a dead body. A man sticks his fingers in a child’s mouth, checks her eyes and fingers when she is presented to a leader of a group that is told that the child comes from a place of abundance. A man wears a transparent covering over his chest and abdomen and tubes are connected to a mask over his face. A dog is shown with a metal prosthetic for a leg. A man is seen with a tree seeming to grow from his groin.
►Men discuss and argue over control of places that have things necessary for survival (fuel, bullets and food). We hear numerous emergency calls and news reports about planetary devastation including heat, pandemics and terrorism accompanying opening credits. A voiceover says, “Our bones are poisoned.” A young woman holds a jar of urine in her hand (we see the liquid). A young woman cuts her hair off in a couple of scenes.
